Multiple exposure

I have an opportunity to do some travel and don't have time to experiment. I have studied the formulas and techniques for multiple exposure for landscape until I am sick of it. However, one thing never seemed to be explained.

Would one expose for the shadows, or highlights first?

I don't think it matters with an in camera multiple exposure. One exposure does not cover the other up - it's more like they are added together with the amount of light recorded at a point in the final being a sum of what is there in each of the individual exposures. You can't cover light areas in one shot with dark areas in the second.

Take each exposure as you normally would, other than of course for the compensation you'll use because it's a multiple exposure. I actually tend to worry less about exact metering and tend to trust the meter a little more in situations like this because multiple exposures aren't always an exact science anyway. Don't worry too much on your first try. You've researched the formulas, so now just have some fun with it. If you need to make adjustments to your technique, you'll be able to tell that when you get your film back.
