    magic arm alternative

I need to get some type of magic arm clamp thing for this spring sports season, but magic arms are pretty expensive. Does anyone know of anything that does the same thing for cheaper? I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Could you be a bit more specific. Are you looking for something like this?

Or something different. I've seen a lot of things termed magic arm.

yes, sorry. Looking for the magic arm like the one you pointed to in your bh link. as long as I can mount clamps/release plates on the ends, and it holds enough for a 10d or so, I'm interested. WesternGuy, not big enough for what I'm going to be using it for (mounting cameras for remote shots) but thanks for the link, and also thanks for the quick replies.

Brent if your useing manfrotto heads you should be able to attatch them with a 3/8th bolt though some wood or something. Just a matter of imagineering it.
At this point I cant fully imagine what your trying to do, so the above is my .02 cents.

    Re: magic arm alternative

    jimmy,
I'm just looking for an arm at this point, the point being to mount a plate on one end and clamp on the other and fix it to areas for remote photos. back of the goal, behind the backboard, etc. I just need the arm to be able to mount. So that's why I'm searching around for a cheaper version before I go an spend the money on the bogen arm. After all, birthday money only comes once a year...

You might try a wood wooking tool supply store. Harbor Freight or some such. There are similar arms for holding gages, accessories, etc. May not have a 1/4 X 20 thread on it but you could probably modify it.
