    Kodak Elite Color Film

I have recently bought a bulk order of Kodak Elite Color (200 & 400 asa) film, mainly for use in my old Olympus 35 SP. I asked a friend would it be suitible for use in my Olympus mju ii (or stylus epic) and he said no, as Elite Color required very accurate light readings which a compact camera may not always provide and that to use some "normal" film such as Kodak Ultra. Any opinions on this?

    Re: Kodak Elite Color Film

Kodak Elite (actually Elite Chrome) is a slide film, and slide film requires a more accurate exposure than negative film. Truly, exposure should always be as accurate as possible but real life situations are sometimes different of course... I have used Elite 100 & 200 in a point & shoot Pentax with very good results. Give it a try - might be just fine.

I've used Elite Chrome 100 in a Styus Epic and the results were great. I think you'll be very happy with it.

As long as you use ISO 50, 100, 400, 800, 1600 or 3200 film, you'll be okay. It doesn't recognize the DX codes for other film speeds (or films without DX coding), and won't meter properly with them.

I've shot hundreds of roles of slide film (Fuji and Kodak) in an Olympus Stylus(really four or five different Styli) with fine results. Remember the Epic has a spot meter mode that you will find quite helpful when shooting chrome. I've got a few in my gallery including one of Soldier Field in Chicago taken through the sun roof of moving car.

Looking forward to seeing some photos.

Thanks to everyone for their tips, I'm pretty sure that the stylus epic will handle this film. One thing I neglected to mention however I am resident in the UK and the film although called Elite Color is in fact a print film. Its the film that is marketed in the USA as Ultra Color - this shouldn't make any difference?

Didn't realize that. USA's Elite Chrome is somewhat more forgiving of exposure than other slide films, but I wouldn't worry at all with neg film. It has much more latitude than any slide film.
