Kodak camera help!

I need help with my kodak digital camera.
ITs a Kodak Easyshare LS443.
The light on the rear of the camera clicks on when you turn the camera on, But in a few seconds it shuts off and leaves the lenes(dont exacly know what this is called) Out. It has a brand new battery that is fully charged. Are there any other forums that deal with cameras? thanks

Seems to be a common problem with that model. The LS series was kind of a first for Kodak in the digital age, and they weren't as reliable and well built as the new DX series. There seems to be no fix for this situation, and is described as either broken gears, or lens off travck. Some people claim it can be repaired for about $200.00. You could get a 5.1 MP with 10x optical, and many more options for only $25 more than that. IMO, you would be better off getting another camera, however, don't let this change your mind about Kodak, their cmeras are easy to use, and produce decent pictures (noone makes a perfect camera), and in more recent models have great performance. My main system is a Kodak Dx7630, and backup is an old slr film camera. Nikon also produces a nice simple user package, but it and Kodak seem to have opposite issues. I.E. Nikon takes better macro shots, however Kodak is better in low light. It really depends on what you want to do with your system. Try your local pawnshops for some really great deals on used systems, that's where I buy mine, and no issues yet.

What causes this?

Wear and tear on the gears that push the lens out, and bring it in. The teeth either break off, or become so worn, they do not catch anymore. The lens can be knocked off track from just being bumped around a little (doesn't take much).

Best guess I have is that the reason this occurs is poor quality and craftsmanship on Kodak's part. As I remember it took Kodak awhile to get into the digital game, maybe they did a rush job to try to catch up.
