Digital Image problems

Recently pictures taken with my 1yr old Olympus 5050 digital camera turn out with what looks like blurred, streaked images. When I look at the image displayed on the camera,before tripping the shutter, everything looks fine. As soon as the image is taken massive streaks appear, that are bright, pastel in color. The image is totally distorted. I am at a loss.

I keep excellent care of all my equipment. It was not dropped or left in a moist environment.

Could use any assistance possible. If I could find out how to insert images I have of this problem on to this email I would.

Posting an example might help. Here's how to do it:

Make a copy of the image 500-600 pixels across the long dimension of the image. When typing your reply, scroll down just past the "Submit Reply" button and you'll see an "Upload Photos" button on the left. Click that and you will be able to upload the image. Then click "Submit Reply" and it will be there.

Since there seems to be an error in writing the file, have you tried different memory cards/ reformatting them? Tried a different power source for the camera? These are probably not the problem, but they are easy to check.

Other than the ones I already gave, if it were mine I would also look at the area where the contacts/pins are for the memory card and for the battery are.

Problems in electronic systems are either individual components that are bad (so change what you can) or connections between them are bad (so inspect and clean those that you can - often the smallest hair or fingprint smudge on a contact can screw things up) or software glitches.

If what you can reach and switch doesn't fix it and there is no way to reset/reboot the system or reload the software/firmware (is there on your camera?) then you'll have to send it to the the people that can reach other components/connections and reload the programming.
