Illuminating dark eyes with natural light?

I'm having trouble adequately illuminating dark eyes with natural light. I'm typically shooting 50mm, f2.8 or lower, no flash. My daughter's blue eyes are coming out fine, but my son's steely brown eyes come out as black orbs. I'm up for equipment (reflectors, etc), though with bounce flash I've not had any better luck. PS will take care of your problem and if you waited to setup your reflector you might miss a few cute shot

Do all the sthots of your dark-eyed son turn out like that?
It appears that your daughter's eyes are turned toward the light source while your son's are looking away.

JTcooper - I agree that's a concern with the reflector. These little dudes don't hold still for much...

Frog - Excellent observation on the lighting, I thought I might get that question! All of his shots seem to turn out that way. There are a very few where he is standing right at a window that I can get some color out of his eyes, but it normally over exposes something else.

Dodge 'em in photoshop. Works great! Here's a tutorial that might help if you use photoshop.

Otherwise, I'm not really sure. Maybe have them facing a big window w/ good light coming in.

A little tweaking in shados and highlights may bring out the color. It does wonders with birds' eyes. They look like a dark orb until I open the shadows a bit.
