How on earth to get a small Avatar file?

    Hi there

I am trying to make an avatar which is supposed to be max 80x80 and 19.5K (whichever is less). However, with Elements, an 80x60 image is still in the 60s K, even at lowest jpg settings. Reducing the pixels even more makes little difference. How do you get the file size that low?

    Cheers

I don't know if Elements has the "Save for Web" feature in the save menu, but that's how it's done in CS2.

If you find that you don't have the ability to optimize an image for web, let me know. I'd be happy to take the file, resave, and send it back to you.

Yeah, you're doing something wrong. Most of the avitar-sized thumbnails I use on my web site come in at under 5K. I have 200x300pixel images that are less than the 60K you mention.

One thing you might want to check is that the image preview feature is turned off in ps preferences. This adds to the file size of a jpeg.

If all else fails consider saving your avitar as a gif file. Should be a smaller file size...

Thanks guys for the help and advice. Joe - turns out that Elements does indeed have a Save to Web feature - so thanks for that. It worked a treat (as you can see!)

    Cheers
