    How to digitalize old photos

Hi! Due to the recent passing of my grandfather, my family has come across a treasure chest of photos of my Grandfather as a child growing up as well as him in later years. My question is would it be best to scan these, or to take a picture of them. My dad has a pretty decent scanner that we can use for the scanning, or I'd probably be the one to take pictures of the photos. Thanks!

Scanning would be best. You could do it with a camera, but the camera would have to be level in both directions, and exactly centered over the print or you'll get some perspective distortion. With a scanner, you don't need to worry about any of that...
