i really want a digital video player and if I had 300 dollars to spend on a iPod video or a zen Vision:m, I would. but the fact is, i don't

anyways, i was thinking of how i could make my canon sd200 elph camera my portable digital video player. i have a 2GB sd card (thanks to slickdeals) so i could fit quite a bit. the camera can take movies and play them back with sounds, it makes sense that it would work with my own files. i think i figure could figure out the right encoding.

there are a couple of problems. for one, i have a audio/video port so when i try to connect my regular headphones in that port, i get this hissing sound and then my LCD goes black b/c it is trying to display the pic on an external device (i.e. a TV). I also tried using the a/v cables they gave me but the cable the audio out is a male RCA cable.

so what i think i need to make it work: a cable that can just work as headphones that can plug into the a/v in. also, i need someway to alter my camera's settings so that it won't turn off the camera's lcd.

i'd appreciate any suggestions!
