    Re: Help Would Be Great

Hi, Blonde and welcome to the site.

I don't know if anyone can answer your question specifically as personal experience, tastes, and needs should dictate your final answer.

I will offer these two words of advice:

    1) don't base your camera choice on whether it will take SD or CF cards - the prices for media is getting so inexpensive that it would be unwise to make a decision based solely on those

    2) look at the cost of the supporting equipment offered by Nikon and Canon (lenses, battery packs, flashes, etc) and determine which brand will suit your needs down the line. The cost and availability of different accessories may dictate which brand you go with. If it happens to be Canon, then your question is answered. If it is Nikon, you only have 2 choices and then you should go handle them personally at your local camera dealer.

Hope that helps. Let us know what you went with

    Blonde,

I give the same advice to someone buying a SLR, DSLR or compact - go play with them in the shop. The internet means that equipment is just a few clicks and loads of dosh away.

The most important for you as the photographer is which suits your hands and mental process. Its all about ergonomics (the human camera interface). Only you can decide which suits you.

From the 3 cameras you named their all pretty much the same as far as quality of photography and the lense is much more important than the body. So look carefully at the cost of these things as well as the camera body.

Loupey is right in the cost of cards. You may find that you still use your existing camera when out and about because the DLSR is too bulky. I still use a compact which I bought on 26th December 1999 because my SLR battery failed me and I couldn't get a replacement.

    Costs to look out for
    Camera Body
Lens that you will buy, e.g. wide angle, standard, or zoom lens ( see this site for review of lenses http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/)
Tripod which will be essential for weddings
Cards - a few 1 GB - you will be taking RAW so 9MB per picture (Stay with 1 GB so that card failure will not ruin the day)
Filters + Holder - work out what you need - circular polarizing a must
    Spare battery

    Hope that helps

All three are good cameras, Go to a camera store, and take you memory cards, take sample photos in the store. Compart the photos, now days you should not be able to tell which camera the photos came from. So buy the camera that fits your hand and that you feel most comfortable with.
