    Help Please .

Last night at a friends party I was taking pictures with a friend when this girl comes over and Deliberatly knocks my camera out of my hands.. Now its broke. It turns on but the lense is messed up. When I turn it off the lense doesnt go back into the camera like it should and the things that shut over the actual lens dont close..

When I turn my camera on my lense will move a little bit, then go out again.
The screen is black with the words, Lens error, restart camera..

I just got this 300 dollar fricking camera for christmas.. my Mom will KILL me if I cant fix it and I have no Idea what to do.

    Any advice what-so-ever?

BTW- Its a Canon powershot SD780 is Digital elph..

    Thanks

Well, if the lens is at an angle you may be able to carefully pull on the lens and get it straightened out, and if it's just jammed and it did not break anything it may work. Otherwise you will have to find a camera repair shop to get it repaired.

You just may have to sue the girl to recover the repair or replacement of the camera as you said "girl comes over and Deliberatly knocks my camera out of my hands" in fact it would be wise to complain the girls parents, before suing. Also it's an "Assault" if you have to sue. Just remember unless your friends are willing to be witnesses for you it will be her word against you word and it will not be wroth the trouble.

If you can't fix it then, as I see it you do need to tell your parents because to sue you need to be of legal age.

I would, as the first step contact the person and calmly but firmly seek payment for the damages. Letting the home owner about the incident is also a must. Consulting your parents is also a real good idea. Good luck,

I agree with everything Phil says. If she refused to reimburse you for any damages, then I would also talk to her parents, if she is a minor, but before I did anything, I would get some signed statements from any witnesses who are willing to give them to you. If you have these and show them to her, then she might be willing to cough up for any required repairs, otherwise I would then talk to the host, so he/she know what happened; talk to your parents and then her parents, if she is a minor; however without witnesses willing to "testify" then it is your word against hers. You could still take your chances in small claims court, particularly if you have a witness willing to testify in that court. Another consideration, is the wherefore and the why kind of thing - was she under the influence of some form of recreational pharmaceuticals or alcohol? Also, if it was some form of "assault" then you may want to discuss the incidence with the local RCMP - hypothetically speaking of course.

Another thought, did anyone else get any pictures of the incidence and if so, could they be persuaded to give you a copy?

    Good Luck,

I agree with seeking recompense, but it may also be that cycling the camera on/off multiple times will cause the lens to work it's way back into alignment. I wouldn't force it if it doesn't. Just have it repaired and demand reimbursement. If nothing is forthcoming, then Small Claims is in your future.
