Help needed with new Canon Rebel XS display issue

    Hi all,
I just purchased a used Canon Rebel EOS XS (1000D), a fairly good beginner DSLR. It has 5-6 auto image modes and 4-5 manual modes. When its set to one of the auto modes (portrait, landscape, full auto, etc), I am not able to have a live image show on the 2.5" LCD display, only the current settings screen for whatever auto mode I selected. There is a display button (DISP.) but hitting that turns the screen black, hitting it again changes back the settings but I never get a live image. I can get a live image in the manual modes but that's it. It seems from the manual that I should also get a live view from the auto modes. Any ideas?

    Per manual:

Live View shooting does not work in Basic Zone Modes. - TF

Thanks TF - I poured through the manual last night but didn't see that. Is that typical for DSLRs? Seems that for newbies coming from point-and-shoots, they would allow live display for the Basic Zone Modes as well.

LV works in all modes on Sony DSLRs, but then Sony is trying real hard to compete with the big two by going after the new DSLR buyer. I don't know about other brands or other Canon models (except the Rebel XTi which doesn't have LV). - TF

Ok by live do you mean when you are taking a photo if that's what you are asking then no it does not.
because you are looking threw the lens so u have to look threw the view finder but it does not show you the live image on the screen.

if you are asking how to look at the photos after you took them then look at this photo :

See the button in the bottom on the right side its a photo of a trash can the next button to the left is the button you push to look at your photos.(its a square with a triangle in it).

Sorry if i spelled anything wrong.

Let me know if this helped?

    Madeline
