    Help This Idiot...;)

I'm new to digital cameras and just bought a Sony MVC-CD500. I feel like such an idiot for having to ask what is probably a stupid question, but ....is the photocell window above the LCD screen suppose to light up? Have I turned something on I shouldn't have? How do I turn it off? I can't find anything of help in the manual. Can anyone please help? Thank you.

Sony cams do that, video and still. Not all still cameras, but most video cameras.

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.
