    Help with bag (maybe)

I am flying soon, and im not sure about the rule regarding carry ons and was wondering if someone here knows first hand. Am I allowed to bring a carry on along with my camera bag? if so, am i allowed to put my laptop in with my carry on?

if not, i was thinking about investing in a bag that will fit a laptop along with my camera since there are times that would help me out anyway. I prefer shoulder strap bags, and was looking at the lowepro stealth reporter. it is just about the right size that will fit under the seat of an airplane too. any other recommendations about a bag, or knowledge about if i can do what i stated above?

    thanks

Jeff , you should be able to take your camera bag and one carry on item with you. The bag I have is a Lowepro computrekker Plus AW, well worth the investment. It is my main bag for storing my equipment when not traveling. It has enough room for 2 bodies, 3 lenses and all my laptop stuff. Depending on how big of a laptop you have it should work fine. If you have a LCS around take your laptop to make sure it fits. I hope this helps you out, Jimmy B

Thanks for the help, but im still confused about one thing. What do they consider that "extra" carry on item? My bag full of clothes will be my "main" bag, so would the camera bag full of gear count as that "extra" item, or do they only allow a small laptop bag or something?

still not sure if its allowed at all to put my laptop in my "main" bag. the rules are well defined, but not well defined at the same time so im really quite confused what is allowed and whats not

When I take my camera bag on the plane usually have a small bag with music player, book and stuff I want to get at. My clothes get checked , it not worth the hassle to try to have everything with me. I know my odds are running out but I have never got off a plane and my clothes luggage not be there. Check your clothes and keep you camera stuff with you, and be ready to have the laptop out when you go through security.

    Jeff,
Here is some information that I found. http://www.thetravelinsider.info/tra...allowances.htm
It looks like all the carriers have a one plus one rule.

    I hope this helps.

Call the airline. Most airlines have pretty much the same rules, but depending on where your going, they could be different. It would suck to be ablel to both bags on the plane on your way to someplace, then find out you can't on the way back!

I have a Lowepro Compact AW that I use when flying. I haven't had to fly with my laptop, but there is no way I would check it, or my camera gear. I would call the airline and ask them directly.

Airlines are one thing, but it does have to get past TSA so you might also want to check for the latest at tsa.gov. Neither of these bags would be very big so that shouldn't be a problem. The way it's been for a long time is one carryon, one personal item. For women, that usually means a purse - so something small. In practice, it looks like they mean a typical carryon bag with the rollers and a laptop bag (just from seeing a lot of business travelers).

I have a Tenba camera/laptop bag. It barely fits my widescreen laptop, but also holds some camera gear (enough to get heavy). It has a zipper that adjusts the width from about 3 to 6 inches - full width for the padded camera insert and laptop. They don't make the exact one I have but it's similar to this one.

I've flown with the crumpler brian's hot tub and had no problems.
It carries the laptop in an internal padded pouch, and a body and a few lenses.
This year going out to PMA it may be a little harder - managing it with the 300 f2.8 !
