have no idea what im doing!

okay well i love to take pics of things! i have kids and birds that i cant get enough pics of! so my bf decided to get me 2 cameras for xmas he bought them off cl or something and they didnt come with user guides! im lost as far as what the lens are for how to work them what everything i have is ect could someone plz help me lol!
the first camera is a canon eos elan II E with a lens that says : promaster spectrum 7 1-35 mm 1:3.5- 4.5 mc! is this a good lens? what are the plus' of this lens? ect
the 2nd camera is a canon eos rebel S it has a promaster spectrum 7 2x teleconverter for canon eos I (have no idea what this is for) then the other lens is a canon lens ef 50mm 1:18 II

Wish I had a boyfriend like that! You might like to post this in the Canon forum? You should be able to find the user manuals online, check out the lenses in the review section here on PR.
