    on the hand or neck

    Hey peoples
I think I'm going to get a new camera some time soon
What's a better option? a hand strap or neck strap?
I have always used the neck since I have never owned anything that gave me the hand strap option.

    It's a stupid question I know...but i sure dont wanna get both!

I've never used a wrist strap but they might be better in some situations. If the camera's on a Stroboframe, I don't use any strap with it (just gets in the way and it's not like you can really put it around your neck). But usually I'm shooting for awhile - then not. Neck straps (which I put over my shoulder more often than around my neck) let you take a break from holding the camera. This lets you change lenses or get something out of your pocket, etc.

Re: on the hand or neck

The only thing I have ever used a hand strap on is our video camera. I have to say, I like it alot, but I also throw the neck strap over my head, just incase I drop it. I think I would do the same with my DRebel if I had a hand strap as well. My DRebel with the battery grip gets pretty darn heavy haning around my neck, but I feel a lot safer knowing that it's there. Sometimes I will just wrap the strap around my wrist if I know I'm not going to be putting it down right away, or throw it over my shoulder like Steve mentioned.

A handstrap is fine if the camera is lightweight and not too expensive, but personally I feel safer with a neckstrap.
