    Good training books for noobie?

Which would be some nice begginer books that can teach me the basics on photograph? I've just bought a DSLR and it has a lot more manual stuff than my previous point and shoot cameras, and I would like to understand how to use them.

Also, I would like to know more on how to frame subjects/landscapes, lighting.

    Thanks

I've been searching at Amazon, and I've come up with:

The Better Photo Guide To Digital Photography (Amphoto Guide Series)
    By Jim Miotke

    or

Understanding Exposure: How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera (Updated Edition)

    or

Understanding Digital Photography: Techniques For Getting Great Pictures (Paperback)

    ---------------------

Also, there is the Web Photo School site that somewhere on this forums shows up. I've seen some example sessions, and they look nice, but I think that the price is kinda steep ($10 month / $80 year) and I would need to look at the leasons in the computer.

    What do you think?

Someone on here took that photo school. Maybe they can chime in, but if I remember right, they liked it.

There are literally hundreds of books on the subject. Just go to a good book store and browse through some of them.

    Amazon reviews might help too.

    I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

it is a bit dated cause there isn't much talk about digital photography ... but it explains aperature / shutter speed / composure / light / flash

all sorts of basics ... very nice read .. glad i got it

One that I really like is "Learning to see Creatively" (Revised Edition) by Bryan Peterson. He is the same person who wrote "Understanding Exposure..." noted previously. As well, "Digital Photography for Dummies" (don't laugh) covers just about everything to do with Digital Photography. It is an excellent book and is very well written.

Any book by Freeman Patterson, who writes about various aspects of photography in general, is also quite good.

    HTH.

    Cheers,

Actually that doesn't matter too much with learning the techniques behind photography. Digital is just a different media for capturing the images, and works a lot like slide film in terms of how accurate exposure needs to be. John Shaw has some great books on technical stuff and I'd recommend this one.

I'm a big fan of Freeman Patterson, but he won't teach you very much about the technical aspects. Bill Smith's Designing a Photograph is another good one almost (not really) along these lines.

    hi rzozaya1969,
I'm also looking for a good book on the basics of photography and I've heard lots of good things about Understanding Exposure:How to Shoot Great Photographs with a Film or Digital Camera by Bryan Peterson; so I'm planning on picking that up.

I started out with Jim Miotke's book - I liked it alot - very basic - but just what a newbie needs!
I also loved Bryan Peterson's Learning to See Creatively
and Freeman Paterson's Photography and the art of seeing...
    http://www.freemanpatterson.com/books.htm
His books don't teach you so much how to - but how to see and create...

Re: Good training books for noobie?

I read a lot, so I collect a considerable number of magazines and books. I have been taking photos longer than anyone here, so my perspective on beginner's books may be a little warped but I would suggest:

Shoot Like a Pro! Digital Photography Techniques by Julie Adair King which is an Osborne McGraw Hill Publication (www.osborne.com may have further info.)

Spring into Digital Photography by Joseph T. Jaynes and Rip Noel an Addison-Wesley Publication (www.awprofessional.com)

For info. on composition, I would recommend; www.photoinf.com.
