Generic AC Pwr Pack Wont Work

Hi all, this is my first thread and first post here. Looking forward to learning more about Photography as I've been your basic point and click type user.

I have a Kodak CX6445 4.1 MP Digital camera. and love it. But I attempted to hook up a generic AC Adapter supply to it and it wont accept it.
The camera will open and the LCD will light and then stop. It wont even close the lens before doing so.

I'm wondering if I must use Kodak's AC Pwr Supply or is there a problem elsewhere eg the Camera's adapter port?

It sounds like the power supply doesn't have enough volts or amperage to give the camera it's needed power. Check the voltage and amperage required to power the camera and then check your power supply to see if it is enough. Will it work ok with fresh batteries?

There are all kinds of power supplies out there - different voltages and output capacity (amps). Some can have different polarity too (a round hollow plug might be center negative or center positive). Also some are regulated and some aren't. Best bet is to stick with the original on this one. I know someone who fried a piece of music equipment by using the wrong adapter so I'd be careful on this one... Just because the plug physically fits into the camera doesn't mean it'll work.

You need a non-Kodak power supply that has the same voltage and current rating. There are two types of power supplies regulated and non-regulated. Many cameras require regulated power supplies. Basically any regulated power supply will work it the voltage is the same and the current rating is equal or greater that the Kodak power supply. Note an non-regulated power supply will damage you camera if the current rating is to high, ( reason is the load current causes voltage drop in the power supply to the rated out put voltage and insufficient current draw will not drop the voltage )
