    Free Lens Hoods

Thought this might be a useful link to put in this forum. Although I wasn't sure which section to put it in.

    Re: Free Lens Hoods

A while back I posted a thread on a cheap lens hood for under $5 using rubber sewer/water adaptors which just happen to be the right sizes for most lenses. A 3" adaptor fits both my Canon 70-200 and 28-300. Just tighten the clamp and done. They can be trimmed to whatever length you need and since they are black there is no reflection.
Now if I could just find the thread!

Thanks John, I tried all kinds of searches and found nothing! These are really good for sports shooters though who need soft hoods for things like basketball where players can (and do) run into you.

I wonder if buying a cheap UV and breaking the glass out would work?

Uh? for what? A hood, I don't think so, filter frames are very small and narrow so I don't see that being any help at all.
As for filters, I only use the good stuff, Hoya (uv) -0 filters which are $45. I have them to keep things from damaging the glass when at races and keep kids fingers off the glass. Shooting at schools kids tend to try and touch the glass...lol surprise! And $45 is a cheap insurance policy to protect that glass that may cost $400 or more to repair or replace.
