    first time buyer.

i couldn't be more excited to buy my first SLR, but at the same time.. i'm extremely overwhelmed.

any advice/guidence on which option/package/kit/camera is best for me would be a HUGE help!!

    i know i want a nikon. that isn't a problem.
initially, i was planning on getting a D40
then i saw the D40x & now i can't decide between those two, or the D60.
...is it worth the extra $ if i'm not planning on printing large photos?

the other "issue" i'm having is what lens(es) would be best for me.
i will primarily be shooting portraits, events ...and my favorite: macro.

    my budget is $700 max.
i don't have any accessories or gadgets at all.

    i'd like to have:
    memory card [min 2gb]
    camera bag
sb400 flash [found that on cameraaddict.com for $100]

    long story short..
    i can't decide between the D40, D40x & the D60
...and i'm at a complete loss as to which lens(es) would be best for my needs.

i found this: Nikon Nikon D40, 6.1 Megapixel, SLR, Digital Camera w/18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II LD Asph. IF Macro Autofocus Lens Kit [here: http://www.cameraaddict.com/viewprod...id=9948105#ps] but it doesn't include any accessories ...is it worth $661?

    h e l p!!

Will I feel that the extra resolution is always needed specially doing macro work. It will give you room to crop without much of a problem. If you ever wish to sell your photos to a stock photo house many require 10 meg or larger image native image size and not in JPG.

The other thing is memory cards are cheap, two years ago we got some SD cards from "Fry's Electronics" for $19.00 each for 1 gig size. And after this xmas I got a 4 gig Scan disk CF card for about 40 at Costco, yes if I drove to Fry's I could of gotten it even cheaper, or dirt cheap for a no name brand. I would get a few memory cards and rotate though them and only formatting them just before use (a good back up system until images are copied to a external harddrive, or burned to DVD or CD for a backup.
