    Fashion Club Photography

I was wondering how this effect is achieved. I don't know much about photography, but I know the photographer uses a huge flash and the pictures aren't edited in post because I've seen them on his display. What kind of equipment would be needed to achieve the same effect?
    Thanks

This photo doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary. The light source is above the camera and pointed straight at the subject (the subject's arm in the foreground is starting to burn out). There is no large diffuser in use - the shadows under the subject's chin are quite sharp.

It looks like the image was done with a DSLR and a cobra flash like the SB800 (for Nikon).

I have to agree with Franglais on this, not a thing special in that photo.

    Bosaina -

Like others have said, this effect is probably normal. When the flash fires the light reflects off the subject and is captured by the flash and/or the camera meter, telling the flash to stop.

If you want even lighting of multiple subjects or even one person, you make sure they're all equal distance from your camera (and flash) so that each get an equal and correct amount of illumination. If they're at different distances, some will receive a lot, some less, some very little, causing uneven lighting. The effect is magnified by close distances.

In your image here the subject's arm was about half the distance from the camera than his (?) face. That caused his arm to burn out compared to his face. His black shirt came out mostly black and the white part burned out. This is all normal, simply amplified by the flash.
