    facemounting to plexi?

may be going out on a limb here, but does anyone know of any labs that do this for a reasonable price? I'm going to be doing it with a few prints, and just want to know whether i should do it myself or just spend the money to have it done for me.

Sorry I can't help you Brent as I have never even heard of face mounting until reading this post. After doing some quick research, it looks like a very cool way to display photos. This makes me want to try it out.

    Brent,

There's acrylic glass, and then there's acrylic glass! That is important. U.V. resistant and archival quality adds expense. And what do you mean by 'reasonable'?

The technique of getting the photo straight and no bubbles includes the need to work very steadily in a controlled temp (relatively) environment.

This is the kind of a 'product' that not a lot of places do it that I know of for outside clients. See if you can get someone to show you how to work with the materials first. I've been cutting plexi for twenty plus years for one thing or another and still swear at the stuff regularly. I'd much rather work with something as evil as coated glass

You can acheive the same thing with glass and clear non-acidic contact cement in aersol cans. The acrylic pictures do ship more easily. With glass this is an old technique, but it comes and goes in popularity. Facemounting may have started with storefronts?

I'll have one of the grapic designers see if she has any recommends for your region. If you've seen this in your area I bet they'll be about as good as anyone.

Best of luck and your 'elegance' photo would be awesome presented in this fashion I bet!

I would forget about the "reasonable price" part of your question. Plexi is expensive and so is good lamination. And it has to be flawless for face-mounting. Check pro labs in Boston. That's your best bet. And just go to the best. If it goes wrong you'll be having new prints made.
