i would say 95% use a version of photoshop ... there are alot of books written on how to use it too ... I am currently going through the classroom in a book for Photoshop CS2 ... have learned great amounts in the first 3 lessons and there are 20 total lessons

I use both Photoshop and PaintShop Pro, which have many similar features and techniques. Overall Photoshop is quite precise and you need a very light touch on some of the controls to get what you want. It is also great for improvements to selective parts of the image. PaintShop Pro is often faster to work with and gives you the option of going with a default choice and preview that is the result of multiple enhancements.

For both however, like probably many others, I use plug-ins and some of the software filters can really add "punch" and depth to your colour work, although I often use a polarizer or graduated neutral density filter on the camera as well.

My Photo Database/Viewer has some basic editing built in. 90% of the time I can do most of the editing within Thumbs Plus. The other 10% I use PhotoShop.

I am using Photoshop Elements 4 and it does just about everything I want it to do, at least for now. If you do go for a book, look for the name Scott Kelby. I have his book on PE4 and it is fantastic.
