Digital still camera that shoots 16x9 video?

All digital still cameras have some video capability and all digital video cameras shoot in 16x9, but is there a still camera that will shoot video in 16x9? I'm looking for a camera with a lot of optical zoom that can shoot video in widescreen. Any advice?

Not sure exactly if it produces 16:9 but I'd check out the new Nikon D5000, it's getting fantastic user reviews for its HD video capability

plenty of high end DSLR's shoot full hd now, the Canon 5dmkII and the Nikon D5000 stick out, but if you have the $$$ then the red camera http://www.red.com/ revolutionises things.

It occured to me after writing the post that any camera that can shoot HD then of course would be in the 16x9 aspect ratio. My bad. Still, any advice on a still camera in the $250 to $550 range that shoots in the 720 or 180p HD format would be appreciated.

Panasonic TZ7/ZS3 has 10x zoom and HD video with stereo mic. That would by my pick.

Check the Panasonic Lumix LX3. It shoots 16:9 as a native format for stills and also does very well with video. Not positive that it does 16:9 in video, but one to look at. I would imagine most DSLRs shoot video in 3:2 and not 16:9 but I don't know much about that.

If your main use of the camera is video, almost any HD camcorder will by default will shoot 720i, the high end camcorders will do both 720i and 1080i resolutions, and these camcorders would be cheaper and have a larger zoom range than a still camera.

I second the ZS3. I think it actually has a 12x zoom. The image quality of the stills is very good for a compact and the AVCHD Lite video codec produces great 720p HD video.
