Question Digital Camera Cable release or wireless

I spend time in blinds waiting on wild life shot opportunities. The camera is on a tripod.
I would like to know if there are any digital cameras that will allow you to use a "Cable Release" to operate them Or some type of wireless remote control.
At present I use an Olympus SP500 UZ.-- Any suggestions
    Thanks

Re: Digital Camera Cable release or wireless

Welcome to the Forum. I don't know about point & shoot cameras, but I would guess that just about all the DSLR's would have a cable release available. I'm a Canon shooter, and I use a cabel release on my DRebel a lot of the time. Especially when shooting macros, and wildlife shots when I'm using my 500mm lens on a tripod. I think most of the Canons also have the capability of using IR remote controls too, but I haven't found a need for that yet, but it could come in pretty handy in some situations.

Olympus have two remote releases, and each lists the cameras it can be used with.
But the 500UZ doesn't support a remote release.

I suggest you search the manufacturers' websites.
Or look through the reviews on this site.

My Minolta A1 and A2 have a remote release socket, but they're not supported or sold any more. Doesn't stop them working I use them on top of the car on-track with the remote release ... works very well for me.

A Digital SLR will be about the same cost as a high end digital with good zoom and manual controls.
But then you get into the realms of choosing additional lenses, and it can get expensive.

I reckon with a little work you could make an adaptor for a traditional cable release that would press the shutter button on any digital camera.
Rather than replace your camera, do you know anyone who can do some metalwork?

Preferably better than my scrappy sketch

when i bought the cable release for my 400D, they told me that the difference between cable release and infrared is that IR doesnt support bulb mode.

That makes sense, you'd run down the battery in the IR fairly quickly.
Unless they made it a two-press system, click once to open the shutter, click again to close.
