    Convert & Burn Old Film

I'm hoping this is an all-too-familiar problem: I have thousands of Kodacolor, Tri-X and Ektachrome images in 35mm format which I need to convert - burn - to CD and other related media. These are pix from the 1960's and 70's. I have contemplated using techniques like PhotoSolve (http://www.photosolve.com/main/index.html) but need more input from anyone who has confronted this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

Scanning is very time consuming, as I'm sure you've found out. To tell you the truth, I only scan things as I need them in a digital format - and take the time to get the best scan that I can get (with my fairly limited equipment).

It depends on what you intend to do with the digital files. If you're just trying to catalog them and have a quick reference, then a quick scan should be OK. If you're trying to print, then there's a lot more time involved in getting the file as good as it can get. I know some of the Epson flatbeds can scan a whole bunch of negs and slides at once (like the 4990) and you can use them as a contact sheet - again, depends on your needs.
