Unhappy Continual Problems with Lens Retraction

    Hi,
I am a total newbie and bought a Panasonic Lumix LZ2. It worked fine for 2 weeks, and then the lens quit retracting. The replacement camera had the same problem.

Is this a common problem with digital cameras? Are they super super sensitive or something?

    Thanks very much.

    Hi Soulcoal,

I'm not a digital shooter, but I have known several people who had problems with the zoom on a digital point and shoot...not yours specifically. It does seem to be one of the more common problems, but from what I understand (which isn't much) it can usually be fixed fairly easily. You should check out the reviews on this site and see if that problem is more common with your camera. You may want to try a different model.

    Good luck,
    Paul

Re: Continual Problems with Lens Retraction

I've used 4 Canon and 1 Panasonic point and shoot cameras, over the last 4 years, in my job and I've not had a lens problem with any of them. They have been fumbled, dropped and kicked. In fact the Panasonic was dropped off the roof of my car the first time I used it. I gave it to a 7 year old niece a couple of months ago and she hasn't managed to kill it yet. It still works like a champ.

Re: Continual Problems with Lens Retraction

    Hi Paul,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm trying to find an alternative model, but none offer the same zoom for anywhere near the price. Zoom is important to me....

I've checked the reviews, but most sound like they were written by people just testing and not using over a long period of time. I did find 2 reviews though mentioning the same problem. Any particular sites that might be useful?

    Thanks again.
