Question Considering the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L??

I am seriously considering purchasing the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8L lens (http://www.photographyreview.com/35m...7_3128crx.aspx). I looks te be a little over $1,100 which is actually more expensive than my camera (Digital Rebel). So buying this is a pretty big decision for me...

I am looking for a lense that is good in low light (f/2.8 should handle that well), has excellent optics, very quick & accurate focus and has great build quality. I would like this to be my default lense. I am not very happy with the stock lense that came with my camera.

Does anyone have experience with this lense? Does anyone have any suggestions on another lense to consider?

My current setup is Digital Rebel, stock 18-55mm Canon lense & a 550EX.

With the awesome ISO performance these Canons deliver, the 17-40L might be a better alternative. Half the price, very similar optically, only a bit slower (f/4). Only a handful of times did I feel like I really needed the f/2.8.

I was thinking about that lense as well. How much difference does the 2.8 actually offer? Thanks for the reply.

    Canon 17-40......

I purchased this lens a few months ago - and it's on my camera most of the time. I sometimes can't believe the beautiful images this lens has produced. My images are so sharp, and the color rendition is incredible. I would look into this lens if I were you. Just my personal opinion from my experience (without trying the 16-35). It's worth looking into at any rate.

I have the 16-35 lens and I really like it. It's far lighter than the Nikon equivalent and produces very good picture. That's to be expected with a $1000+ lens. The 17-40 lens has a far wider focal range, it's very light, and produces great pictures. If you need to have low light pictures, use the money saved from the lens and buy the biggest and baddest tripod around. The f/4 is fine for most applications and you will enjoy having the extra money.
