Canon USM Zoom len is not turning smoothly...

hi there
i have a canon usm zoom len for 2-3 years, it has been great unless recently.

Right now, whenever i turn the zoom ring, the ring is not turning 100% smoothly, you could feel or hear some "tick" while turning counter-clockwise. But this only happens on zooming out, not during zoom in...

Is this normal ? is there a way to fix it ?

Get on Canon's website for the nearest Canon repair/service center. They have a form you can print out if you choose to send it to them for repairs. You can also call them and get an estimate on repair time but they usually overstate the estimate. The zoom ring on my 70-200 f2.8L was doing that after just 6 months, but then I take it everywhere, including some hazardous places for lenses (like the ocean and sandy beaches, dry and dusty trails...). I recently sent it for repair on a faulty IS unit, but they cleaned and serviced the entire lens (wow) and it's working like brand new. In fact they packaged it and returned it to me just as I remember it when I first got the lens over 2 years ago and the white paint on the lens looks brighter and cleaner than when I sent it in.. They're not cheap, but they usually do a really good job on servicing your gear.

You don't mention what kind of lens it is but my guess it is a ring gear going bad. It is also the motor in certain lenses. It will need serviced by Canon.
