Canon PowerShot SD800 IS places grainy grid lines onto photos?

I recently got the Canon Powershot SD800 IS about one month ago. It was working fine, and was giving me pictures like this:

    Click. The picture is large.

Which I was satisfied with, now for some reason, the pictures are turning out like the following:

Here's a larger version of how the pictures are coming out:

hmmm that looks kind of like a filter... did you clear all camera settings?

I thought it was a filter too, but I cleared all the settings multiple times, took the battery out, memory card, everything.

Was it taken in low light? Some compacts leave strange artifacts in low light. Does it still do it outside on a sunny day?

It's not just low level light, 98% of the time, the gridlike lines appear, and in a well lit area, it takes incredibly bright pictures, often times with just a solid white picture appearing.

EDIT: Canon's Tech guys said it's probably something to do with the image sensor, and that I should send it in or exchange from where I bought. :/ Sending it in is too time consuming to me, I guess I'll go exchange it. I wonder if I should get the same model, or a different one.

i havent heard of any similar problems with the 800is, so it may be an isolated incident. like i said, very unusual...
