    canon extenders

Knowing the canon 2x extender degrades alot more than the 1.4, has anyone tried using 2(two) 1.4x extenders together(on 100-400is) I'm trying to get into bird photography, and cannot afford a super tele!

My 1.4 and 2x TC's are at the office right now, and I can't tell you for sure, but I don't think you can stack anything behind the back of the 1.4x, at least not another Canon 1.4x or 2x. The rear of the 1.4x is not deep enough to take the small protruding front element of another Canon TC, whereas the 2x can take having a 1.4 stacked behind it, or another 2x as well. I could be wrong, but to the best of my recollection, the Canon 1.4x can't be stacked together, but you could stack a third party TC behind the 1.4x.

FWIW, George Lepp stacked Canon extenders on his L lenses using a thin extention tube in between.

    Re: canon extenders

Thanks guys,i just picked up a 1.4II today, i'm going to try that on my 100-400IS and see how that works. I tried the 2x at the store and initially looked good, but after some PS work, realized it wasn't the best. Thanks again!
