    Canon AE-1?

I friend of mine is wanting to sell me a Canon AE-1 film camera that is probaly 20 or so years old. The battery door is broken the the only problem with the camera. I am currently shooting a roll of film thriugh it ti see how it turns out. He is going to want me to make him an offer on the camera. It has a Canon 5mm lens and a Rickon 80mm to 200mm lens as well. both in good shape. What would be a good price to offer him for the camera? The battery door is a $10.00 fix.

Mine was given to me so I checked prices on Ebay to see what they go for.
They range from $10 or so to well over $100.
With anything broken they dont go for a lot.

Assuming it's in decent shape, and the battery door fix is easy, the AE-1 is an excellent camera. Offer low, let yourself get bargained up to whatever you're really willing to pay.

Check "completed auctions" on ebay for a good idea of what they're going for. I have to agree - tons of them out there and any problem with it will make the value of it next to nothing. I'm sure it would be easy to find one in mint condition but with this one you've got the opportunity to try it out first. If the pics come out good then that means there aren't any light leaks and the meter is working fine (check the negs to be sure, not just the prints).
