    Smile canon 70-200L 2.8 one little button question

    hi, is anyone know what that little switch next to the auto and manual focus switch is? I had this lens for a few month now and didn't quiet understance what purpose this one serves. thanks so much for this tinny information for the big dum dum head I got...hehe

    Well, if it's the one I'm thinking of , it's a range limiter. It determines the minimum focus distance that the lens will focus to, and it's set in meters. The advantage to setting the minimum distance further out is that the lens can focus more quickly in situations that doesn't require the closest working distance that the lens is capable of, since the lens doesn't have to travel the entire focus range.

    so, which one do you prefer the 1.3 or the 3. something meter. cause I'm still at work don't have the lens with me

    There is no real solid answer for that, JT. It depends on what you're trying to shoot. For example, if I am shooting a basketball game from the baseline, I would have it set to the 1.3. If I am shooting from a balcony down onto the court, I would set it to the 3m.

    The switch basically tells the lens that the subject is further than a certain distance away, so when focusing, it wouldn't have to traverse the whole focus range.
