Canon 450D & Flash Trigger Voltage

I love my new XSi, and so I really don't want to take a chance screwing it up.

I upgraded from an S2 IS, and I have a Phoenix D92-BZS flash I used with that in slave mode. It's not a great flash, but as it will work on a hot shoe I hoped I could use it with the XSi until I can afford a Speedlight. But I've read a lot about trigger voltages that can damage my new XSi, and I don't want to do that.

So, does anyone know if this flash is safe to use? I'm not sure how to measure the trigger voltage- I did get out my trusty RadioShack multimeter and measured the voltage between the contact on the side of the shoe and the contact on the bottom, with the flash on it reads 5.16V and if I fire the flash it dips and then jumps right back to 5.12V and then climbs back to 5.16V. Is this the trigger voltage? And if not how do I measure it? And what is a safe one for the XSi?

Re: Canon 450D & Flash Trigger Voltage

5.XX volts will not damage the flash trigger circuit of the camera. The flash bulbs used a 30 volt battery, the old electronic flash trigger voltage before TTL and other electronic control was 200 to 450 volts, and studio flash units my still be that high.
