    Camera/battery woes

I have an older Fuji A330 digital that has served me well for years. Since we were going on holiday to a place with questionable electricity, I used the camera's discharge battery function. Recharged them and also another set. When we got to our destination I took about 10 pictures and got the battery low icon. Changed the batteries, the same thing happened but after only two pictures taken. Came home, recharged the batteries, low battery icon again. Thought maybe the charger was faulty, so went out and bought a new one, exact same thing happened. Obviously this has something to do with the discharge function but what, if anything can I do to fix it? Fuji wants me to send it in to them here in Canada, would rather not if I can do something myself.

The key hear is what kind of batteries? How old are the batteries. NiCAD batteries can develop menory. If the batteries are AA just put them in a flash light and run them dead, charge and repeat a couple times. If you have charged them more than 100 times they may need to be replaced, batteries do ware out.

    Cool Re: Camera/battery woes

They are NiMH 2500 mAH new batteries. So no memory loss. The problems started when I used the camera's discharge battery feature.

What charger are you using, some cameras have the a charger built into the camera, or are you using an external charger. And how old and how much use do these batteries have? The simptoms that you are having is that of a used up time to replace battery.

    Re: Camera/battery woes

Please read my original post - I have bought NEW batteries and a NEW charger. So neither of those two things are my problem.

Well, with new batteries and new charger.
The only remaining problem is your camera.

Have you looked for corrosion or dirt on all the battery contacts?

    Sounds like a good idea.
If it was something you'd done wrong, they could tell you how to undo it.

It seems as if it's draining the batteries very quickly, which I suppose is what the Discharge Battery feature might be meant to do.

If it was possible to leave it set in discharge mode, I think they'd have told you how to undo it. From reading the manual, I'd think that when the camera switched off after discharging, then it ought to change out of discharge mode.

Yes, I think you're right. Will have one more go at it tomorrow when I visit a friend who has a mains plug, so might be able to reset it or something. If not will have to send it in to Fuji. Sooo frustrating.
