    Brightness Experiment...

I'm having a little trouble with one of my posts in that no one seems to be able to see what I see on my monitor. Below are 10 photos getting progressively lighter. Please reply with the number of the photo where you can first make out the image. TIA, Terry

    Re: Brightness Experiment...

3 is the first I can start to make something out if I squint.
5 is the first I can tell what it is.
I think 9 is the best with 10 being a hair too bright.
I do wonder how bright your monitor is and why.

    Re: Brightness Experiment...

I'm the same as Nealrm... I can see the light shapes barely in 1, and can pretty much tell what it is by 3...

My monitor is adjusted using a Spyder2 system.. Nothing fancy, but it has helped...

I can see the clown at 3 if I turn off the room light.
The white page background of this forum fools my eyes.
I wonder if I can fool the HTML and get a neutral grey forum background ?

Interesting observation. I tried this as well and relative clarity shifts 2 positions once I turn on/turn off the room light (after sunset here now)

w/ lights off I can see dim blobs at #1 and clearly understand the image at #3 but when I turn on the table lamp next to the computer those values shift to dim blobs at #3 and understandable at #5.

    Re: Brightness Experiment...

I can see the outline of the head, flower, eyes, hair and face in #1. By #3 the stem of the flower starts to emerge.

That's on a calibrated NEC crt in optimum muted light.

On the standard DELL Inspiron it's #4 before there's much more than a hint of the image.

On the uncalibrated Samsung LCD (calibration turned off for gaming/TV viewing) it's about the same as the notebook, around #4 for much of anything recognizable. With the calibration on its back down to about #2 with the stem of the flower becoming apparent at #4.

    Re: Brightness Experiment...

Thank you - to everyone that responded. Pulling this off in this multi-monitor world is going to be tough, but it looks like there is a solid center to this bell curve where many see nearly the same brightness. Now to go back and redo the portrait. - TF
