Black Out Display on Canon S1IS

Hi Everyone, I am new out here, just started to face a problem with my Canon PowerShot S1 IS Digital Camera. Everything was working smooth until today. Even the last month I had taken loads of pictures. But when I switched on the camera today, the display and viewfinder dosen't see anything everything looks BLACK, BLACK BLACK , everything is working but I am not able to see the image in the Viewfinder or the LCD. If I switch to the image viewing mode I can see the pictures I had taken last month. Can you please advise what I need to do? Should I upgrade the firmware on the Camera? or Re-install the software? I'm very worried..... coz I'm broke and can't afford another camera right now.

My Nikon Coolpix has a button that turns off the LCD. You might want to check the manual to see if your camera has something like this - maybe it somehow was pressed.
