    5d and 580ex

I think I may have a problem, but I'm gonna put this out there and HOPE it's something that I missed or did improperly.

I like to shoot in raw, as I'm sure most of you do as well.
I set the 5d to av and attach the 580ex.
These settings usually work quite well. If I can bounce I will; also with good results.
I like to shoot flash between 5.6-11, and occaisionally 16 dpending on distance and surroundings.

Just recently the shutterspeed has seemed to slow way down. Below 30 and less.
Like the two aren't in sync with each other. Shots are overexposed and getting the blurs because of the slow shutter speed. When I go to tv I may not get enough, or too much light. When I go to auto setting,no raw capabilities, exposures appear ok.

Am I missing something, mavbe on the flash settings?

Iso will be anywhere from 200-1000.
Hoping it's not the camera, as I'm sure you can all understand.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: 5d and 580ex

Could be a dirty contacts problem, or even a fault in one or the other.

My 1DS and 580EX have stopped talking to each other, also it doesn't work with the flash extender I bought.

It won't always to into ETTL mode, just TTL.
Even in ETTL mode it doesn't always zoom in sync with the lens zoom.
Yet grab the flash and wriggle it about in the flash coekt and it springs to life properly.

I need to do some more tests to see if it's the flash or the body, and try clearing the contacts thoroughly - first thing to try!

Make sure the hotshoe is tight on the camera body, if it isn't tight it won't work properly when the flfash is attached. Also as SW mentioned, make sure the contacts are clean.
