    Tri x B&W film

Well it took me a month and a half to shoot 36 exposers of Tri-x film and when I took it to CVS to have it developed, they told me they where not sure they could do it and if I wanted to take a chance that it would be on me. I said no and took it to a pro shop to have it developed...I am glad I did...I am astounded at the sharpness and clarity of this film. The detail is simply breath taking. What was a bit of a surprise was the $23.00 development fee and prints, (no cd) but since all but three are keepers and will be going into my album, it is well worth the cost....However I will need to learn to develop my own stuff. I hated waiting a week to get it back....But when I did, it was like Christmas....I will scan the images tomorrow and post some up...Thanks again for all the advice....

By the way, is it different to develop Tri X? Is it not the same as C41?

Congrats! Tri-X is my go-to B&W film. It's a great place to start if you want to learn to develop.

Tri-X is a traditional B&W film, which is different from C-41. C-41 is the standard development process for color negatives, but there are also a few B&W films that use this process. They are Ilford XP-2, Kodak 400CN, and Fuji makes one too, but it's hard to find in the US. These are the minority in B&W films. There are many more that are developed using the traditional methods, the same as Tri-X. The C-41 B&W films do not contain silver, so they have a different look, but they have their advantages; fine grain, can be developed anywhere, scan easily...

Looking forward to seeing some scans.

$23 isn't too bad for 36exp plus prints. That's cheaper than my "local" lab with 4x6 prints.

C-41 processes very differently than traditional b&w films such as Tri-X. Here is a link that will show the steps of the different processes:

KODAK CHEMICALS FOR PROCESSING FILMS, PAPERS & DISPLAY MATERIALS

Developing B&W is very easy to at home. I always compare it to making cookies. If you can follow a Toll House recipe, you can develop B&W film. Though it will take some fine tuning to get the perfect "cookie". When you're ready to take the plunge, let us know and we'll get you up and running in no time

    Thanks guys.
Here are two scans. I will post more as I have time.
These are direct scans. Cropped and re sized only.

$23, ouch! I hope that for prints done with a conventional enlarger?? If scanned and done w/digital enlarger, that's way expensive. Even if 'professional', they must not be doing much B/W. Or they are doing single rolls and not dip and dunk.

Anyway, glad to see you are trying one of the classic films. And developing this stuff is very straightforward. I even talk on the phone while doing rolls of B/W. Just put in the bluetooth and I'm off.

Best of luck and we'll get you started done the path when and if you're ready to shake your own.

I will surely be trying my own development here very soon, in fact, my next roll.

Nice shots. There is nothing like TriX.

Javier, did you do any adjustments to these shots? Did you scan these yourself or did the lab? They look a tad "off". Almost as if there is some fogging or maybe underdeveloped??? With Tri-X you should have some nice, crisp blacks and whites but these shots never quite seem to go fully black or white, if that makes sense.
