PMA - So What Do You Think?

So, film guys. What did you think of the PMA coverage? Did we (walterick) take care of you? And do you think that the photography industry is paying enough attention to film users? Was there anything in our coverage that you're particularly excited about? I am not using film at all anymore, you know. But I have to admit that the Fujifilm 6x7 folding rangefinder got me a little excited :-)

I can't wait to get a closer look at that Fuji folder. I don't have the еее for one now, but a tip of the hat to Fujifilm for having the guts to make a film camera, and medium-format folding one on top of that.

I have been slacking a little over here haven't I?! I can do a full write-up soon, not just on the film cameras but also what the film manufacturers are doing, including the new TMax 400 from Kodak and upcoming Portra revisions, the newish almost-IR film from Ilford, what in the heck Agfa is doing? And the story behind the real reason Fuji stopped making the Velvia 50... for a while. Stay tuned!

Which film is that? That the SFX200? That's been out for a long time. Greg McCary and I have both played with it a little bit. It's fun stuff. I want to get a good deep red filter before shooting with it again though just so I can get the most IR effect out of it.

Re: PMA - So What Do You Think?

    Hi John,

You guys did a great job covering the film areas of PMA. I appreciate all the info.

I'm very excited that Fuji decided to make that 6x7 folder. It looks awesome. I don't think I'll be buying one though. I don't have the money to invest in a worthy MF scanner. I'm just excited to hear that it was well received.

The 35mm Holga's seem kinda neat. I might have to try one of those. I'm sure it wouldn't have the same look as the 120 version, but 35mm is much more convenient, so it might be worth a try.

The new Tmax 400 is on the shelves at my local shop, but I haven't picked any up yet. My fridge is already full of other films, but I will definitely be trying it sometime in the next few months. I've heard very good things and seen some nice examples. It looks like they made some real improvements.

I'm interested to hear the story about Velvia.

    Thanks,
    Paul

Did they end up declaring that they are producing it? I thought at this point it was just a prototype to gauge interest? Either way, it is a good sign though.

I didn't mean mass production...just excited that they made a prototype to gauge interest, and from what I heard, it sounds like they got a good response. I think this is a very good sign.

One of my biggest beefs with digital is that you either have to use a so-so point and shoot or a big honkin' DSLR (I don't even consider the M8 as a real option, but it's a step in the right direction). With film, you have all kinds of different camera designs to choose from, including relatively compact MF folders like this one.
