Thanks for posting that link, Paul. I had a vague memory of the announcement being bunk. And I thought I'd followed up. But I couldn't find a link to the second announcement. As I said, it looked like Vivitar trying to drum up some attention. And the more I think about it, the less sense it makes, unless the camera was going to be either super cheap, or integrate some sort of interesting new feature.

I don't know if it was an attempt to move along a project that had stalled; I thought when I saw the Kodak release after the Vivitar release, that it might put a strain on the relationship between them - which might not be renewed.
Do you know what happened after March this year?
I can't find anything about their cooperation after that.

Re: Plans for Kodak-branded SLR unveiled

I don't know if "unveiled" is actually accurate. If I remember correctly, it was a Vivitar announcement that Kodak was pretty noncommital about. In the end, it seemed to me more like Vivitar looking for attention than actual news. I did consider it newsworthy at the time though, and wrote a short article:

New Kodak 35mm SLR Rumors >>

Personally, with the price of really good used 35mm SLRs right now, I think it would be mighty risky for Kodak to try to sell a 35mm SLR unless it cost about $50.

I agree. You can get some REALLY nice 35mm SLR's right now for under $100 with lens. Now if we can get them to come out some new MF gear, then I'll be a happy camper Anyone heard anymore news on that Fuji folder???

Yeah the Nikon F100 is one of the best non-pro SLRs ever made imo and its going for around $200 these days.

Nope, haven't heard anything about the Fuji Maybe john has?
