    Photographers you like

Please feel free to post some of your favorite photographers sites. I judge my favorites by what I would pay to have hang on my wall.

Here are some of my favorite fine art photographers and I also added some intaglio printers, cause thats just me, I have done a similar process to this, only I did not expand any of the exposure. Some of these people not only expanded it, they added color in some cases. I hope you enjoy, here goes:

    Re: Photographers you like

Apart from guys like Frank Meadow Sutcliffe and Ansel Adams, where money was exchanged for their works through galleries for my collection, I find that artists are very happy to swap work.

I've been swapping work for decades with others. I've managed to aquire works now by Gerrit Fokkema, Robert Little, Jorg Schmeisser (many works), Christian Voigt, Phil Mead, Karen Szekessy, Deborah Perrot and there are others who's work I've put away and haven't seen for years and had forgotten about until I read this thread, this evening. I have many large works by Kevin Gilbert who died decades before his time. I printed Kevin Gillbert's gallery collection for the National Gallery of Australia and Kevin asked for a quote, and I told him the fee was one print of each, to which he thought was most affordable.

All artists like to swap work ... that is how we do it with peers. By the time you grow old, your kids will thank you for your past friendships.

Currently here in Canberra we have a 50 gallery photography festival on at the moment ... I suppose that I had better take some shots for the Forum and get on my bike.

    Warren.

ps, Guess which artist has the bulk of the works on the walls of our home? ... there is a resident artist in most homes who's work shouldn't be overlooked.

Wow, I really like William Vanscoy's color photos. I'd love to see how he does that. Thanks for posting that.

I'm having trouble thinking of many of my favorites at the moment, but here are a few:

Here's one of my favorite modern landscape photographers. http://www.robertglennketchum.com/

Caroline always amazes me with her creativity as well as her proficiency. http://www.flickr.com/photos/calinore/

And then there is Tuna, who graces our critique forum once in a while to show us how it's done. http://www.flickr.com/photos/21618643@N00/

Definitely a BIG fan of the classics... Ansel, the Westons, Stieglitz, etc. As for modern photographers, a few I keep an eye on are:
Ryan McIntosh for some really clean B&W work
Emil Schildt is about as good as it gets when it comes to creative alt process work
    John Brady for excellent landscapes
    Bill Schwab is just WOW
Clyde Butcher does some fantastic work in the everglades and can you say 52x100 framed wet prints!!!
Sanders McNew does some truly captivating studio portraiture
Ian Leake can capture the human form like no other
Toshihiro Oshima, I'll let his photostream speak for itself

Yeah William Vanscoy does some amazing color work. He's a guy that I didn't get to talk to at a local arts festival (the cherry creek arts festival), that I really wanted to talk to. I am betting he has over thirty layers in photoshop on some of his images.

I thought about that and thats why I specified the willing to pay part. I find I am far more critical of art when I will be paying cash for it. Swapping is easier from my limited cash flow perspective. The favorites I posted were all artists from The Cherry Creek Arts Festival that I felt offered the best value, I would buy their work.

I love the work Ryan McIntosh has done. Thanks for the Emil Schildt link, I am intrigued by the photopolymer gravure work. Seems like a cleaner way to do acid etching. I will definitely look into it.

I thought you would enjoy that one. Posted that one just for you  Bill Schwab does some excellent alt process work as well. He doesn't have a lot of it posted on his site but, he does post quite a bit in the APUG galleries and elsewhere. He's been posting some awesome portraits done with collodion on aluminum. Also, I know you like lith work a lot. Do a search for Thomas Bertilsson. He doesn't have his own website, that I know of, but posts quite a bit around the net. Andrew Moxom is another to look out for.

    Re: Photographers you like

Bill Schwab is aptly described by you in your post. One of those photographers that seems to be able to get the light to do what they want. Thomas B. is an amazing photographer, I am a big fan of his work. Andrew Moxom is one I will check out. The funny thing about lith printing for me, is that I actually did lith prints in high school accidentally, and threw them all away without a thought about exploring how I could make it work.
