My Pentax K1000 experience.

My Pentax K1000 is my baby!
It took forever to convince me to use a digital.I have a Pentax K10.All of the dials & settings confuse me.
Everyone says it's all to make it easier.It's harder for me.
Give me some rolls of film & my K1000 and I'm set.

Javier - Great photos. I especially like the one with the jockey on the horse interacting with the kid and his mom. It seems to be more deeper than just a photo, I feel like it's telling me the emotions of that day. I was in Maine over this weekend, I didn't bring my camera but I found a lomo Diana+ which shoots on 120mm film. I shot a roll of color and have a roll of B&W waiting to be used. I;ve not developed the photos yet so I can't tell how they turned out. Plus, I don't have a scanner yet so I am still unable to share my photos. I know this is not a lomo site but hopefully no one minds.

FWIW...

I have always loved Pentax cameras. Started out with several MX and eventually went up to a few pro LX bodies. Loved them. That being said...

The reason all those settings are available on your digital camera is that you are in control! Rather than allowing a low-paid techie make all your decisions, you get to make them yourself. That's a good thing, not a bad thing. Like anything else, it takes practice. I kept one of my LX cameras and a set of lenses around after I bought my first digital camera. The only thing they have done since then is collect dust.

But hey, show us the images!

Well here goes. my scanner arrived today and I got busy. I have a correction to make, I mentioned earlier that I love the ISO 800, I looked at the negative, it's actually 3200, These are some shots I took with my Spotmatic, with the broken light meter on Kodak P3200 TMAX. All comments are welcomed. Thanks.

Yep, very soon, very soon ...Funny thing. I just bought a new DSLR Pentax K20D and have used it twice only compared to my film camera every single day....It is incredibly fulfilling and exciting.

I remember my K1000 and its got to be one of my favorite film cameras. I liked it so much when I bought it, that even though I bought a Pentax SF1 and SF1N to replace that when it was stolen, I chose time and time again to go back and shoot the K1000.

I ended up selling my K1000 and other film brand camera's when I finally bought the Canon 1D. Then I went back on ebay and bought another K1000. I finally sold that because it is difficult to maintain two different camera systems. Now its so cheap to buy into film bodies and manual lenses its hard to resist. Its a great time for a film camera buff. We can now buy some of the most unique and upper line camera's that most of us could not afford before.

The beauty of the pentax system when I owned the K1000 and SF1 was that I could use both AF and Manual lenses on the SF1, and the K1000 could uses the newer AF lenses in manual mode on the K.

I have to say I do miss my Twin lens Rollie Cameras. I now am a Canon Shooter and just picked up a E0S-3 and I am bidding on another model Canon as well. I do have some darkroom stuff left over from my early days including an enlarger. I have metal film developing tanks that I might post in the for sale forum if I find the extra one. I picked all the ones up that others left in the lab at the college I attended back in the 80's. Interesting enough, my father put a camera in my hands when I was 8, but I never took a photography course until 20 years later. There is also a joy of working in a dark room that I know many people will miss.

I grew up using my dad's K1000. That was the first camera I used and really enjoyed using it. I now have a Spotmatic F which I love using. The only problem is that the built in light meter is broken so I use a lot of guess work to gauge the aperture to use. The film broke on me once as well when I was at the end of the roll and advancing the roll to the next frame just tore the film right out of the canister. I use the camera more for B&W, the latest was using an 800 speed film which came out great. I really would want to get the light meter fixed but don't want to spend big bucks on that.

Have you considered buying a hand held light meter? Then you can use it with any camera.

You ain't kidding. Was looking on Ebay the other day and was seeing Mamiya 645 Super systems with AE prisms and lens with Buy-It-Now prices around $350 - $400 And $500 - $600 will buy you a nice Hasselblad 500c outift

...There is also a joy of working in a dark room that I know many people will miss...

Why do you have to miss it? Still plenty of places to buy chemicals and paper :thumbsup:
