    My new film kit

I recently recieved my dads old AE-1 film kit when I graduated college recently. Its more nostalgia than anything, because he died when I was 10 (I'm now 23). But here is what it included:

    AE-1 Body
    Film Winder A
    Data Back and original back
    50mm 1.8
    135mm 2.8
    Canon 166a Flash Head
    Vivitar Flash Head
    Various filters
    Close up lenses
    Cable release

Everything seems like it works, by sis had it a closet since 1999 and I used it once in 2003. I put everything on last night and changed all the batteries, and man is that thing heavy. Its neat that this is the camera my dad used when I was born and growing up, and I'm about to have my first boy, and how things have changed. I still plan on shooting lack and white through it, but digital is what I will be using when my child is born. Expect to see some scans in the near future and when I get my new camera tonight I will try and post a few pics of the set up.

An AE-1 is a great camera and the 50mm would be one sweet lens to get some portraits shots of your new baby.

Congrats on the set-up. I'll be looking forward to the scans  Any ideas what you plan on using for B&W film? Developing yourself or have a lab do it?

I have a tank for developing, but no way to print. So, I figured I would let a lab develop and scan the negs and I could go from there. This first roll is just a test roll to make sure there aren't and light leaks and the seals are still good. I think I have a few rolls of Neopan 400 left in the fridge. I might have to pick up a few rolls of tri-x as well as that is my absolute favorite film.

You won't be disappointed with the AE-1. I shoot with a A-1 and love the results from it.

The AE1 is a fine camera, congratulations ... I still have what Canon called the New F1.

I bought a couple of F-1s when the AE1 was first released. I also bought an AE-1 in Japan on the same day that it was released, purchased for my then girlfriend.

I can remember going into a camera store in Shinjuku that was 6 stories high and they had a promotion on, to welcome the AE1s release. The promotion involved inexpectedly having dinner in the Canon gallery in the Ginza, viewing the Japanese Ski Photographer's Association annual awards.

All I was actually doing was going to buy 2 F1s and an AE1 and ended up having dinner in the Canon Gallery, using my limited Japanese to describe how good Australian back-country cross-country skiing was. Very few people realize that in Oz we get a huge amount of snow. When it snows. I doubt that the Japanes ever believed me.

I'm likely to die before your Canon AE-1 dies. I haven't changed the battery in my F1 for 3 years ... and I just noticed that it died. How is your battery going?

I just replaced the battery, because the film advance wouldn't work. It had been in storage for 11 years, so I bought a nice lithium to put in there with no issues. I have a set of rechargeables in the motor drive and a new battery in the data back.

    Hi bklynbruiser, welcome to PR

You are correct, the date will not go past 1987. Here's a page with so more info on this as well as how to work around it:
