Found the old Mercury PX675 batteries have been illegal for years.
Mine had an LR44 fitted which results in incorrect exposure as the battery voltage drops.
So I'm gong to try this out:

Not unsurprisingly, the seals have turned to sticky goo.
I googled around a bit and found Jon Goodman well recommended but although I had his email I couldn't find where to buy the seals.
I got an instant reply to my query, and he pointed me to his ebay auction items under the name "interslice" and I ordered a seal kit on the spot.

Good luck with the battery adapter. I'd like to hear how well that works. I've considered one for my Canonet but I'm currently using zinc air hearing aid batteries. They work just as well as the expensive Wein Cells for much less money, but my meter is off a little with either type. I have to adjust the film speed to make up for it.

I bought the Jon Goodman seal kit for my Canonet and it included enough material to do many more cameras. I think I've done 6 so far and it's not even half gone. Good instructions too. Well worth the $10 I paid. The hardest part is cleaning off all the old gunk.

These adapters seem to work pretty well. Unless you are going to shoot some film with a very narrow exposure range, like a lower ISO chrome the metering should be fine. For some cameras they almost work better.

Do check the meter against another one to be sure it is still within tolerance at both ends of it scale and you should be good to go, as far as the meter goes . . .

The seals are a very easy to get sorted out.

One roll of test film should tell you just about everything you need to know from these two upgrades/modifications.
