So I was sitting in the dark developing some shots from this morning and started thinking a bit about what my costs are now. Thought it might be fun to revive this thread and take a look at the different costs associated with the different formats.

Right now I'm shooting 4x5 Ilford FP4+ which runs $88.99/100 sheets.

I'm tray developing shot by shot in 5x7 trays and using 520ml of developer per negative. I'm using Rodinal which runs $15.99/16oz per bottle and mixing 1+25. So with my workflow 1 bottle develops 25 sheets.

Still using Kodak Indicator Stop Bath which runs $6.29/16oz per bottle. I have eliminated the Kodak Hypo Clearing Agent as I've swapped to using Ilford Rapid Fixer, which is a non-hardening fixer, and it runs $9.99/1L per bottle.

I haven't quite figured out the costs per negative with the stop bath and fixer but, so far I'm looking at :

Negative: $0.89
Developer:$0.64
------------------------
Per shot: $1.53

I've also picked up a couple small boxes of slide film, Fuji Provia 100F $23.49/10 sheets and Fuji Velvia 50 $27.99/10 sheets. I'm planning on sending out to E-Six Lab for developing which is going to run $2.75 per sheet. So I'll be looking at per shot costs of $5.10 for Provia and $5.55 for Velvia. OUCH!

Gotta love that big film!

How are you going to store your film images? I have mine hung in folders in a file inside an archival box. Many cabinets from the years gone by.

There's only one outing (i.e. job) for LF I have planned this year and it is going to be paralleled with digital.

Keep that color film cool after exposure as well. I will hold up better if you don't get it processed immediately. Think about chilling it thoroughly before shipment and shipping it with a moisture absorbent material in the package. Check with E-Six to see if they pre-rinse the sheets. That way if there's any slight staining from condensation it won't show up when processed.

Right now, I'm storing all my processed shots in Printfile sleeves. My color film is, of course, in the freezer, and exposed shots will be stored there as well until I probably finish off a whole box so I can send it all out at once. Haven't shot any color yet though. Not much going on right now color wise with all the muddy snow melt. I have some portrait stuff planned for the Provia and soe landscape stuff planned for the Velvia. We'll see what happens though and I'll definitely keep you posted

You need to include RAW developing programs, Lightroom $200.00 and CS2 just guessing $500.00. Printers, ink, CF cards ect. ect. I think digital could actually be more expensive if you figure in a body upgardes every two to three years. Hummm, It adds up.

Actually the cost of printing is not factored into this, therefore the cost of other software is unnecessary. Now if you are figuring the cost to print/make prints than than would be different, however most cameras come with software to do this, crappy maybe but it is still possible.
