Getting Prints

I'm ordering some fancy B&W film from B&H today, and was wondering what to do with it once I finish shooting the roll. Can I drop it off at a regular 1hr photo place and get 4x6's done, and then if I want larger print (if anything is worth it!) send the negatives to a real lab? Do labs do anything different with the actual film itself than a 1hr photo place would?

Film shooting is purely a side hobby, and I don't have money to burn experimenting around too much. I'm trying to limit myself to one roll a week, or so... Buying junk for my dslr is expensive enough!

What did you get for B&W film? If it is a C41 B&W film any lab can process it for you. If it's traditional B&W film you better check with your lab as not all places can develop it as it's a whole different process with different chemicals. IMO if you're going to shoot B&W film, you should develop it yourself. It's cheap and easy to do plus then you will have full control over it. For traditional prints, I would check San Miguel Photo Lab. They are supposed to be excellent though a traditional, hand printed B&W print is going to cost you considerably more than a digital print.

I got some Ilford delta 100 b&w film...

For now, I will just have to say the diy route is out of the question. Maybe I made the wrong choice? It's only $5.50 if I did... You live, you learn...

Not the wrong choice at all. Delta 100 is very nice film. The thing is a lot of labs now are not set-up to process traditional B&W films. Check with your lab though. If they can process it, than I think you will be very happy with Delta. If not, than you will need to look for a C41 process B&W film such as Kodak BW400 or Ilford XP2.
