Fujifilm to Increase Prices for Photographic Papers and other Photosensitive Material Products

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO Shigetaka Komori; hereafter “Fujifilm”) announced today that it will increase prices on its range of photographic papers and other photosensitive material products on a worldwide basis. Price increases will depend on products and markets.

1. Products: Photographic papers and other photosensitive material products
2. Date of Price Increases: Effective from July 2008
3. Increase Rate: Range from 10% to 20%

To sustain its photo imaging business, Fujifilm has been undertaking intensive structural reforms to reduce fixed costs and improve productivity, and has been absorbing the increasing costs of raw materials used to manufacture films and papers over the past few years. However, the recent soaring costs of such materials as silver and crude oil mean that Fujifilm is no longer able to absorb these costs during the production process.

The new pricing structure will be applied to each market based on its individual conditions.

This has been since the first of the year. There also may be more controlled production which translates to less of some items. A large number of photogs I know and have contact with have 'stocked' up. This may mean that Fuji and others will make less and thus prices may rise even more.

I think I better return the 'film fridge' to it original title from being a spare beverage chiller.

Interesting that they tie it to the increased cost of oil. We're seeing that more and more. My question is, when does it making dedicated film shooters more interested in digital? Part of the reason I switched was the cost of film and processing. And that was a long time ago and my first digital SLR cost over $5000...

Ahhh, you beat me to it....

I'm marking that one on the calendar!

For me, it's not going to make me swap to digital. I think at this point the only things that would make me swap to digital would be if A) they stopped making film or if B) I started shooting assignments professionally (portrait work, weddings, etc). If anything at this point though I actually want to move further away from digital and would really like to swap to shooting 8x10 large format but, I just not feasible at all right now

Ouch.....Does this include Reala. It's about the only Fuji product I use...

Yep, all Fuji films are suppose to see an increase.
