Film provider/processing in New York

Hey all, I apologize for disappearing for some time. I'm now in Cooperstown, NY for my summer photography internship. However, this area is amazingly rural. I think I found a community darkroom in Oneonta that I'm going to check out for B&W processing. However, I'm not going to try to learn color processing, so I'm trying to figure out how to go about the color processing. I can't find any labs on mapquest in the area. Will I need to send it out somewhere? Where would that be?

Also, I can't even find a place to buy good film. The first result on the mapquest search is a liquor store. So again, does anyone know of a store somewhere in the area that would carry professional film? At this point, I think I'm just going to order it from B&H since it's so close.

Any help you can provide would be amazing. And I've got a wireless card coming for my computer, so I should be able to get back on the forums again soon. Thanks!

I'm working at an Operahouse out here. It's Glimmerglass opera, and I get to be a photographer all summer! I've only worked here for 2 days now, but I've been shooting about half the time. I will eventually have to start doing a lot of scanning of all their old film archives. But there will be a lot of actual shooting time as well. Plus, I'll be essentially apprenticing with their staff photographer once he arrives. So I think I will be learning a ton this summer.

Oh, and a quick aside. I finally got my commercial pilot licence about a week before I left.

Glad to hear the internship is off to a good start. I'm not familiar with Cooperstown but, Oneonta has a Walmart where you could get film processed at (though it may not be the best). Maybe bring a test roll there to see how they come out??? As for getting film, you're better off just to order from B&H or Adorama. You'd have to pay shipping but would be just about over night shipping as when I order from them it only takes 2 days to get to Maine.

Ya, I think that would probably be easiest. I'm not a big fan of wal-mart, but maybe I'll see if they're any good at developing like you said. Otherwise, I think I'll be the mail order photographer for the summer! Haha. Thanks for the help!

I have been sending my slide film (E6) to Photo Craft Imaging in Colorado.

I have been very happy with the results I have gotten from them. I don't shoot a lot of film anymore, but when I do, I send it to them. I did take a roll of E6 to the local Wal-mart a few months back. They had to send it out to another lab and it came back about a week later. The film looked fine to me, and I didn't have to pay for shipping.

The walmart lab used a mini lab to process the film. This method used very little chemistry. The smaller the amount, the harder it is to control the temperature. Photo Craft uses large tanks of chemistry (dip/dunk method). This is much easier to control and to get consistent results from.

I save up my E6 film and send in a bunch at once. If you send it in a roll at a time, you will go broke paying the shipping both ways.
