A few photos from my Canonet GIII QL17 and FP4+ in Rodinal

Just receieved my negs in the mail the other day. Unfortuntately this roll was not exposed as well as my last roll. That may have something to do with the fact that I am now using a non-mercury replacement battery, whereas with the previous roll I was using a mercury battery. I've read where this can affect exposures and one must compensate for it, although it hasn't seemed to affect the slide film that I've shot as of yet.

Anyway, here are a few examples from this roll. Nothing special, just a few candid shots. The first one is my favorite.

Nice shots, Ray! I don't see any exposure problems in these. What kind of battery are you using now? I use a 1.4V zinc-air hearing aid battery and it seems to work well. I think it actually underexposes a tiny bit, but I only shoot negative film and it works fine.

They look a little flat to me Ray, otherwise they are your usual good stuff!

    Thanks guys!

some of the negs were underexposed while others were overexposed. That shouldn't have been since my meter read a correct exposure. So I blame it on the battery and not the user, hehe.

Not only this, but my scanner is not the best for scanning film. I had to do a lot of curves adjustment in PS. I really need a good film scanner!

If you're using an alkaline battery, it will slowly change voltage as it dies and that will give you different meter readings. And don't forget that if your lens cap is off, your Canonet is turned on. Zinc-air batteries, like mercury, have a flat output curve which doesn't drop significantly until it's about to die.

edit: Just noticed you said your meter was reading correctly. The shutter is not controlled by the battery. It's completely mechanical, so if your meter reading was correct, but the exposure was off, it's probably a mechanical problem. Might need a CLA.

Great shots as always Ray. Really like the first shot with the girl and the puppy. The expressions are priceless.
